What Is Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)?
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) focuses on teaching people skills which will allow them to respond more effectively to life’s difficulties. It achieves these results by helping individuals realize a balanced perspective of acceptance and of change and, therefore provides an opportunity to become “unstuck” and open a pathway for the individual to move forward.
DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) helps to treat people experiencing depression, bulimia, binge-eating, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic-stress disorder, and substance abuse. In addition, DBT skills are thought to have the capability of helping those who wish to improve their ability to regulate emotions, tolerate distress and negative emotion, be mindful and present in the given moment, and communicate and interact effectively with others.
